Game 4: 

 

Germany  1 – 4   Latin America

 

 

 

In a game dominated by pitching, Germany was not able to qualify for the semi-finals.

 

 

Pitching dominated the game on both sides.  After an error gave Venezuela the first run of the game, a single, stolen base and overthrow from the catcher brought Matthias Downey to third. 

 

A ground out from Junior Ventura scored Matthias and tied the game.

 

 

The game stayed even until the sixth, where the Venzuelan team finally was able to solve the German pitching.  4 hits and a walk scored 3 runs.  

 

 

Germany had no answer, going 3 up and 3 down over the last two innings to end their tournament. Stuttgart players on the field were Andrew Buxkemper, Ruben Rodriguez, and Ryan Tannenbaum.

 

 

 

Game 3:

 

Germany 12 – 2   Canada

 

 

Right from the start, Germany was able to keep their slim hopes of qualifying for the semi-finals alive. While double plays ended Canadas first two innings, Germany was able to plate 5 runs in the first and third inning, and never looked back. 

 

 

Junior Ventura started Germany off with a single, and a double by Anthony Schulz's scored the first run.  A double steal plated the second. Two walks and a sacrifice fly gave the team 5 runs in the first inning.

 

 

After a scoreless second, Jack Smith started off the third with a hit, stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch.  Anton Helmig's hit brought him home.  After Ruben Rodriguez singled and another wild pitch advanced both runners, an error by the third baseman allowed both Anton and Ruben to score.  A single from Junior Ventura and a double from Anthony gave Germany a 10-0 lead.

 

 

Canada was able to answer with 2 runs in the fourth inning.  In the bottom half, a single from Jack and a double from Anton gave Germany 1 run, and in the fifth inning two walks and a single from Ben Briggs plated the 12 run and ended the game by the 10 run mercy rule.

 

 

Reds players in action were Andrew Buxkemper, Dennis Hudson, Ruben Rodriguez, Ryan Tannenbaum and Dylan Wagner.

 

 

 

 

Game 3:

 

Germany – Canada – Rain Out

 

Mother Nature kept the German team from playing yesterday.  The game was rained out and will be played today in an early game.  The team now has to play a day – night double header, competing against Latin America in an evening game.

 

They must win both games, and hope for help, to be able to make the semi-finals.

Game 2: Mexico   8 – 2   Germany

 

In a game that the final score doesn't tell the real story, Mexico scored 6 runs in the extra inning to win the game.

 

After getting Mexico 3 up and 3 down, Germany was able to plate 2 runs in the first inning.  A single by Luis Santa Cruz and hit by pitch for Anthony Schulz, followed by a passed ball, brought them to second and third base, with a balk then scoring Germany's first run.  A ground out RBI from Anton Helmig scored the second.

 

Pitching then dominated the next 3 innings, with Schulz allowing only one hit over the first 4 innings.

 

In the top of the fifth, Mexico's batters got only their second hit off Schulz.  A pitcher change brought Stuttgarter Ruben Rodriguez on the mound.  He walked the first batter, then a sacrifice bunt advanced them into scoring position.  After getting the next batter to pop up, a single then tied the game.

 

Germany had their chances to win, getting runners to third base with two outs in the next 2 innings, and with 0 outs in the 7^th, but couldn't push the winning run accross.

 

In the top of the 8^th inning, after a single and a ground out, Mexico was able to get 4 doubles and score 6 runs to put the game out of reach. Stuttgart players on the field were Ruben Rodriguez and Ryan Tannenbaum.

Game 1: APAC 13-2 Germany

With 6 runs in the first three innings, Asia-Pacific showed why they are one of the favorites in the international Group. 

 

Germany managed just one hit against AP's starting pitcher Yuan Fang Chun over 2 2/3 innings.  On the other side, AP was able to score in every inning.  A wild pitch scored the games first run, and a 2 run home run in the second gave them a 3-0 lead.  A second home run in the third inning plated 3 more runs.

 

The German team finally showed some signs of life in the fourth inning.  Ruben Rodriguez walked, and back to back singles from Jerome Dunford and Jack Smith loaded the bases.  A walk to Ryan Tannenbaum brought Ruben accross home plate, and a single by Junior Ventura closed the lead to 7-2.

 

Germany, though, could get no closer.  Then, in the top of the fifth inning, 6 hits led to 6 runs and ended the game through the mercy rule. In action from the Stuttgart Reds were Andrew Buxkemper, Dennis Hudson, Ruben Rodriguez, and Ryan Tannenbaum.

 

Day 1

 

After a long wait of 3 weeks, and a long trip of 4,518 miles (7,271 kilometers), the players finally arrived at Easley, South Carolina.  

 

5 players from the Stuttgart Reds are participating.  Junior players Andrew Buxkemper, Dennis Hudson, Ruben Rodriguez, and Dylan Wagner, along with Ryan Tannenbaum proudly walked the player parade (with Ruben holding the Europe-Africa banner).

Big League Qualifier Stuttgart News and Information - Day 3 - The Finals

Netherlands  5 - 6  Germany District 2

In dramatic fashion, Germany District 2 wins the European / African Championship, and earns the right to participate in the Big League World Series.  

 Inning 1 – After a lead off strike out, Pitcher Anton Helmig also struck out the second batter.  Unfortunately, he was able to advance to first on an error.  A single and a triple brought the first two runs accross home plate.  A sac fly scored the third.  GD2 went three up, three down.  Score 3-0

 

Inning 2 – Netherlands three up, three down.  A lead off base hit from Jerome Dunford brought the first base runner for GD2 on base.  After a pop up to the shortstop, a walk advanced him to second, where Matthias Downey's single brings him home.

Score 3-1

 

Inning 3 – Both teams get one runner on, but no runs score.

Score 3-1

 

Inning 4 – Both teams -three up, three down.

Score 3-1

 

Inning 5 – A walk and hit by pitch gives the Netherlands 2 baserunners, but the defense is solid and allows no runs.  Then the EXCITEMENT – After a lead-off ground out, base hits from Ruben Rodriguez and Luis Santa Cruz and a walk load the bases for GD2 and a pitcher change for the Netherlands.  A pop up to the first baseman for the 2^nd out.  Then a Base on Balls and Hit by Pitch force 2 runs accross home plate.  A base clearing double from MVP (as voted by the Players) Anton Helmig plates 3 more runs.  

Score 3-6

 

Inning 6 – After a top pitching performance (5 IP, 1 ER, 2H, 4 K's), Anton gives the mound over to Tim Kotkowski.  Unfortunately he doesn't have his best day.  2 BB's and a double brings a run home before he makes way to Ben Briggs.  A fly ball to short RF, a pop up to the Shortstop, and a beautiful running catch in LF from Jerome kept it at 1 run.  Three up, three down for GD2.

Score 4-6

 

Inning 7 – Leadoff batter up for the Netherlands, and he is able to work a walk, and steal 2^nd base.  A base hit scores him.  After an out, another stolen base gives them the tying run at second, but a strikeout and a pop up ends the game.

Score 5-6

Game 4:

Day 2

Big League Qualifier Stuttgart News and Information - Day 2

 Germany District 2 28-0 Germany District 1

As in the first game, District 2 team dominated the game from the start. District 2 had a total of 22 hits, and allowed only 1 in a one sided affair. With the win, the GD2 team ensured themselves a spot in the Championship Game Friday at 14:00

Germany District 1 0-18 Netherlands

Again, the District 1 team hat no chance against the Netherlands national team. The only positive is that they had 3 hits in the game, doubling their total for the tournament. The win for the Netherlands also qualified them for the Championship game on Friday.

Netherlands 7-2 Germany District 2

In a game that had virtually no meaning, the Netherlands were able to exact revenge for the first game loss against GD2. After 2 scoreless innings, the Netherlands were able to bring 3 runs across the home plate. A fourth run in the next inning extended the lead to 4-0.

GD2 answered with two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, but it wasn't enough. The Netherlands scored 3 more times in the sixth inning for the final score.

Reds players in action were Ryan Tannenbaum, Ruben Rodriguez and Dennis Hudson.

Friday, 14:00 is the Championship game, with Germany District 2 team as home team. The winner goes to the Big League World Series in Easley, South Carolina from 24-31 July

Day 1

 

Big League Qualifier Stuttgart, News and Information - Day1

Germany District 1   0 – 31   Netherlands

 

The Netherlands needed only 8 hits to score 31 runs against the District 1 team.  A Home Run from Sanders Paap, and an Inside the Park Grand Slam from Wendly Woube were the highlights from a one-sided game.  

 

The Dutch team is made up of mostly National Team players, where the District 1 team consists of players from the military communities of Ansbach, Grafenwoehr, and Vilseck.

 

 Netherlands 3 – 5  Germany District 2

 

In a much more exciting game, Germany District 2 held on for a close victory.  GD2 went ahead in the first inning with Jack Smith scoring the games first run.   Both teams were able to score a run in the third, and through 5 innings the score was 2-1, in a game up to then dominated by pitching.

 

In this tournament pitching is very important.  Pitch count rules dictate that if a pitcher throws 30 pitches, he must have 1 day of rest, and if he goes over 45, 2 days of rest are required.  This means any pitcher throwing more than 45 pitches will not be able to pitch the rest of the tournament.

 

In the sixth inning, the Netherlands, through 2 bunt basehits, were able to bring 2 runs across home plate.  Undeterred, the GD2 team answered with 3 runs of their own.  Again, it was Jack Smith who was the catalyst with a steal of home plate.  The Dutch team were able to get the lead off batter on base in the seventh inning, but the defense held and the first win was in the books.

The District 2 team consists mainly of players from the German Baseball Academy (DBA) and the Patch Barracks High School team.  Six of the players are also on the Stuttgart Reds roster.

 

Reds players in action were Ryan Tannenbaum, Garret Becker, and Ruben Rodriguez.

 

Germany District 2   28 – 0   Germany District 1

 

With 15 hits and 28 runs, the GD2 team had an easy victory.  9 runs in the first, and 10 in the second inning overpowered the District 1 team.   Again, the GD1 team was unable to bring a runner over home plate, and only one runner reached second base.

Dennis Hudson, with 3 innings pitched, Andrew Buxkemper, Garret Becker and Dylan Wagner were Stuttgart Reds players in action.

Drei Teams: German District 1, German District 2 DBA und die Niederlande spielen um die Europameisterschaft. Der Gewinner fährt zur Weltmeisterschaft Big League Baseball World Series in Easley, South Carolina.

Bei der Weltmeisterschaft werden Teams aus Europa, Asien-Pazifik, Latein-America, Puerto Rico, Canada und den USA werden um den Titel "Big League Baseball World Champions" spielen

Das Sportereignis wird für ein Millionenpublikum im amerikanischen Fernsehen live zur Hauptsendezeit übertragen.

Dia Altersklasse entspricht U18. Fünf Spieler der Reds Junioren sind im DBA-Auswahl-Team (Germany District 2)
